Major Design of a MBR System

Major Design of a MBR System

·  the pre-treatment (inlet/outlet pumping stations, equalization tank, inlet screen)
·  the sludge holding tank
·  the covers and odour control
·  the chemical design for phosphorus reduction, alkalinity correction, carbon addition
·  the membrane configurations from the MBR
·  the membrane separation process configuration
·  the bio-treatment process configuration
·  the fouling and fouling control
·  the ancillary equipment
·  the stand-by generator
·  the stand-by equipment philosophy ? blowers
·  cost consideration
·  call-out alarm or remote monitoring facility
·  walkways and lifting equipment
·  operation and maintenance

Membrane configuration concerns the geometry of the membrane and the direction in which the water flows through it.

The membrane separation process configuration concerns the placement of the membrane module in the overall MBR process.

The bio-treatment process configuration determines the biochemistry and, therefore,
which pollutants are removed (organic carbonaceous materials, ammoniacal compounds and nutrients).

Further elements of design comprise pretreatment (screening and, for some applications, clarification)
and post treatment (generally either disinfection or desalination).
